Mexican director and producer Michel Franco, known for his film After Lucia, winner of the Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012, as well as for Sundown, which is premiering at Transilvania IFF.22, will hold a masterclass in directing for film students in Cluj-Napoca. Michel Franco's notoriety is due to his authentic style, oriented towards a specific niche of contemporary cinema, about power dynamics transposed onto socio-political structures with family issues as a peripheral structure. Throughout his career he has been awarded for cinematic masterpieces that have brought him into the limelight with their specific nonconformism. These include Chronic (2015) and April's Daughter (2017), titles that established him and for which Franco was awarded at Cannes. He brought remarkable stories to the screen, often shocking in their topics and approaches.
On Wednesday, June 14 at 10:30 at the Blu Radisson Hotel, Michel Franco will hold a masterclass in directing for film students from Cluj, a first in Romania. Admission is free for the public, but since the event is meant for film students, participants must have a minimum of experience in filmmaking, or be part of a film university. During the masterclass, Michel Franco will share his experience as a director, screenwriter and producer and the craft to combine them in the most ingenious way possible. He will talk about the necessary tools that film and production enthusiasts need to know and apply to make a name for themselves in the film industry, the inspiration behind his productions, as well as personal accounts of his impressive life. The moderator of the masterclass will be Ionuț Mareș, who will have a relaxed discussion with Michel Franco about the proposed topics.
At Transilvania IFF.22, Michel Franco is part of the Official Competition jury, together with actress Judith State, British director Harry MacQueen, Serbian actor Darko Perić and Nicoletta Romeo, film producer and programmer.
